The first half of 20th century was dominated by two world wars, WWI and WWII respectively. Mary Kaldor in her book “New and Old wars” has defined world wars as total wars, since all the production system and resources of a state were used for war. Not only the non-combatants were used for war they were also made the military target. Comparatively, civilians were made target in second world war than in the first one. The Jewish holocaust and nuclear attack in Hirosima and Nagasaki can be the good examples of non-civilian targets. The mobilization of resources and people of the whole world except a few countries made these wars world wars. WWI started in 1914 and ended in 1918 whereas WWII started in 1939 and ended in 1945 which was followed by the establishment of United Nations Organization.
