Measuring cultural diversity is a very difficult job. The cultural diversity is declining day by day in the world due to imperialism, immigration and globalization. According to David Crystal, Honorary professor of Linguistics at the university of Wales, one language gets extinct within a period of two weeks. If the extinction ratio is maintained to that of today, only 10% of languages that are spoken today will remain in 100 years time.
UNESCO is working for the protection of threatened languages, culture and societies. In addition to this some indigenous are in the verge of extinct due to modernization. Rautes in Nepal are the only remaining hunters and gatherers group. It is difficult to predict that they will remain hunters and gatherers in 100 years time because modernization has already influenced their way of living.
In addition to this, environmental change and degradation has led to extinction of some cultures throughout the world. Media is influencing different cultures and making them homogenous in a way.
