- Peace studies used to be taught as a part of political science, international relations, anthropology etc.
It gained a wide attention after two world war, after 1950s, peace research and peace activism started in different parts of Europe and northern America.
Peace research started by different scholars on their own efforts
Peace research was institutionalized after the establishment of Peace research institute of Oslo (PRIO), Swedish International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
Introduced as programs in Uppsala university in 1971 and Gothenberg University in 1978.
Uppsala university also started UCDP and started making a conflict database.
Got more popular in 1980s
Different universities in the world started to introduce conflict studies as a separate discipline.
Until now more than 200 universities have introduced conflict studies
