The phrase Human Rights was first time used by American President Franklin D. Roosevelt while addressing the congress in 1941. His wife Eleanor Roosevelt worked for making UDHR which was adopted in 10th December, 1948. International Convention on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and International Convention on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) were adopted separately in 1966. Other conventions related to Human Rights are:

- Convention against all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), 1979
