Multiculturalism:
- Coexistence of multiple groups in a society, institution or a nation.
- Multiculturalism generally describes the nature of the society where people of diverse culture live.
- Refers to two or more than two cultures living in the same area therefore acceptable when referring to multiple cultures.
- The term is often used by English speaking European anthropologists.
Transculturalism:
Totally mixed cultures due to migration. Leading to hybrid culture and there is no distinction between the cultures.
Intercultualism:
- Being aware of cultural differences and trying to bridge them to increase mutual understanding
- This term is often used by non-English speaking Europeans.
- Describes interactions, negotiations and processes between cultures in the society.
- Commonly used to describe existence of minority culture along with a predominant indigenous culture.
